UFC recently announced plans to stage an event in Raleigh, North Carolina for the first time, as former champion Junior dos Santos is expected to face Curtis Blaydes on January 25. The official fight poster has finally been released.
Many sources confirmed to MMA Fighting on Wednesday that verbal agreements are in place from both sides, although contracts have not been signed yet. UFC Raleigh’s fight card isn’t completely clinched at the moment, but it will feature other well-known names.
In the main event of the evening, former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will try to shake off a recent knockout loss to Francis Ngannou as he takes on streaking contender Curtis Blaydes. A victory for Santos will apparently right heading into 2020 while a win for Blaydes could set him up for a No. 1 contender.
As for Blaydes, he’s coming off two straight wins, including a second-round TKO against Shamil Abdurakhimov in his most recent fight.
Considering the fight is settled, dos Santos and Blaydes will battle in the main event from North Carolina as the UFC goes head to head with a Bellator card that same night, which highlights Cris Cyborg in her promotional debut against Julia Budd in a featherweight title.
