Portuguese casino operator Solverde Group was just granted an online sports betting license in Portugal.
The new license, awarded by the Comissão do Turismo de Portugal, will allow the operator to accept online sports bets via its Solverde.pt website.
Solverde, which owns and operates five land-based casinos across Portugal, also owns an online casino license in the country. It offers a wide range of casino-style games through Sasinosolverde.pt.
The new licnse comes after Servico de Regulacão e Inspecão de Jogos (SIRJ), Portugal’s national regulator, revealed last month that online gambling revenue increased drastically during the lockdown.
Operators recorded a total of $164.8 million in the first half of 2020 alone, up by 44.2% on a year-to-year basis.
SRIJ, however, explained that this increase appears to be short-lived, with revenue in June returning to pre-pandemic levels.
