The Philippine National Police (PNP) has got its hands full as executives give regional directors a strict deadline to stop illegal gambling.
PNP Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa has ordered PNP regional directors to get rid of illegal gambling operations in their areas of jurisdiction. They only have a week to make this happen else they face being removed from their posts:
“To the concerned RDs of the PNP, I have forwarded to you a list of operators in the different regions. I’m giving you a week. If you cannot stop, I will relieve you.”
Just last week, three city police chiefs and eight precinct commanders were relieved for not being able to stop illegal gambling operations in their jurisdictions.
All forms of illegal gambling will be affected. These include small town lottery, jueteng, and video karera among others.
Gamboa is prepared to deal with any instances of police bribery as well. His no-take policy for police officers states that officers may be relieved and even administratively charged if they are caught accepting bribes:
“The PNP chief does not get a single centavo from jueteng.”
