The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has authorized integrated resorts in Manila to allow online bets aimed to help operators from hefty losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alfredo Lim, the president of PAGCOR confirmed that the regulatory body has approved online betting applications that were filed by three casinos in the Entertainment City gaming zone; City of Dreams Manila, Okada Manila, and Solaire Resort and Casino.
As great as the news may be, it is not surprising that there had been talks of the Philippines moving in this direction over the last month. PAGCOR also confirmed receiving offers from several land-based operators in Manila and asking permission to accept wagers online exclusive from what the gambling facilities referred to as ‘well-known patrons’.
Upon the requests, the Philippine government agencies have conducted investigations to determine the benefits of the casino’s proposals.
However, it is unclear whether the arrangement is permanent. It can also act as a brake in casinos. The casino is currently 30% capacity.
