Holland Casino reopened all 14 of its venues today (July 1) after being forced to close for several months due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Slot arcades in the Netherlands are also allowed to reopen as of today.

The said venues have been shut down since mid-March and were originally scheduled to reopen on September 1.

But as the delayed reopening was openly criticized by the VAN Kansspelen, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Health Minister Hugo de Jonge announced that the new reopening date would be July 1.

“We are very happy that we are open again and that we can fulfill our social task,” Erwin van Lambaart, Holland Casino chief executive, said. “As of today, our valued guests can safely and responsibly enjoy our hospitality and our exciting range of games.

Lambaart added, “We have fully furnished all branches in accordance with the 1.5 m social distancing guidelines, while retaining the atmospheric ambiance that the Netherlands is used to from us. We do ask everyone to make a reservation and adhere to published guidelines.”

Slot machines, roulette and blackjack tables will all be available as well as restaurants and bars on the venue.

“Our 4,000 employees are ready for our guests and have received special training,” Van Lambaart said.

Safety Measures

Holland Casino has put together a special safety plan it created together with VAN Kansspelen based on on advice provided by several different government departments.

“We have worked hard to set up our casinos in accordance with the protocol and all guidelines of the RIVM [National Institute for Public Health and the Environment], without compromising the atmosphere and our hospitality,” Van Lambaart said.

VAN Kansspelen gladly received the reopening of Holland Casino and slot arcades all over the country.

“Together with Holland Casino and our members, VAN Kansspelen has worked hard to reopen slot machine casinos in the country,” the association explained. “With an extensive Covid-19 protocol that futher outlines the 1.5-meter distancing rule in practice and further enhances the hygiene of locations, the slot machine sector can fully restart from July 1,” it added.
