BetBlocker Receives first Corporate Donation from CasinoGuide

UK-based responsible gambling app BetBlocker has received its first corporate donation from online casino comparison website CasinoGuide. BetBlocker is funded and developed by ThePOGG.com, an alternative dispute mediation service.

Although BetBlocker did not reveal how much the donation was worth, it did say that the funding would enable CasinoGuide to promote the BetBlocker gold tier donation seal on its websites. This seal provides a link to the verification page on the BetBlocker’s site.

According to BetBlocker, it will use the donation to upgrade some functions on its mobile iOS app. This would make the restriction stronger and a lot harder to bypass.

The BetBlocker App

The BetBlocker app allows users to self-exclude from gambling by restricting access to over 6,700 participating iGaming websites. After a user has activated the block, they won’t be able to counter the decision until the exclusion period has ended.

“What makes CasinoGuide’s actions even more special is the nature of their business,” Duncan Garvie, BetBlocker charity trustee and manager, said. “Unlike UK licensed operators who have license-based obligation to make a contribution to a relevant responsible gambling-based charity on an annual basis, CasinoGuide are an affiliate site and are subject to no obligations to make any donation whatsoever.” He added.

Garvie added that they have completely anticipated that operators would be willing partners because “the project developed and the industry became more aware of the tool we are offering.” The charity trustee and manager added that he is “personally bowled over that it has been an affiliate to step forward first. The lack of nay requirement or expectation to make such a donation differentiates their actions and defines this action as truly charitable.”

On the other hand, Alex Tester, CasinoGuide project manager said, “At CasinoGuide, we believe that the service we provide carries an inherent responsibility to promote responsible gambling behavior. We are therefore delighted to be the first corporate donor for BetBlocker, thereby assisting in the further development of an extremely valuable tool available across several platforms free of charge.”
